Boise State Broncos vs New Mexico Lobos Prediction, Odds and Picks for Friday, 01/17/25

Boise State will be traveling to the Pit to take on New Mexico on Friday night in what should be an exciting matchup. The Broncos rebounded nicely in their last game against Wyoming with a 96-55 win following their heartbreaking loss to Utah State. Boise State is currently 3rd in the Mountain West with a 5-2 record in conference play (13-5 overall) and New Mexico is right above in 2nd with a 6-1 record (14-4 overall). The visitors are looking to pull off a road victory tonight to move up in the Mountain West standings, and I think they have a good chance at covering the spread.

This Boise State team is averaging 78.7 points per game, putting it 93rd in the nation, and is only giving up 66.1 (51st). The Broncos shoot 48% from the field and 32.8% from deep, which could be troublesome for New Mexico’s defense. A big part of this Broncos offense rides on Tyson Degenhart, who averages 17.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. As for New Mexico, it averages 83.2 points per game (30th in the nation). As far as the Lobos’ defense goes, they have been struggling a bit this season — allowing 73.1 points per game (235th). Boise State needs to try and contain Donovan Dent, who is averaging 19 points per game for the Lobos this season. The Lobos are shooting 45.4% from the field, slightly worse than the Broncos, but are slightly better from deep shooting at 34%  Boise State allows opponents to shoot 42.5% from the field and 33.3% from deep, and the Lobos allow their opponents to shoot 43.3% from the field and 37.3% from deep — which I think opens the door for the Broncos to pull away late in this game. Boise State is probably still fuming from its loss to Utah State and will be eager to prove that it is the better team in the Mountain West. Look for Boise State to play tough and cover the spread, making the Broncos my best bet of the day.
