Arkansas vs St. John's Pickswise Expert Predictions
Saturday’s second game on the slate takes us to the West regional, curiously played in Providence, Rhode Island. Nevertheless, we are here with an Arkansas Razorbacks vs St. John’s Red Storm prediction in an intriguing matchup of similar teams and similar coaches. As the committee loves to do, they have set up a storyline matchup in the second round, this time between two future Hall of Fame coaches in Rick Pitino and John Calipari, both of whom did their best work at Kentucky. On Thursday, St. John’s eventually blew Omaha away, despite the Mavericks making of game of it in the first half. For Arkansas, the win came at the expense of Kansas, who took a first round loss for the first time in almost two decades. On Saturday, I look for the Red Storm to keep it going, and my Arkansas vs St. John’s pick is St. John’s -7.
These teams are very similar. Both play terrific defense, good enough offense, and try to play very fast. The thing is, St. John’s is simply better than Arkansas at all those things. Arkansas has a top-20 defense; St. John’s is #1. Arkansas plays fast; St. John’s plays faster. St. John’s doesn’t take many 3s, nor do they defend it particularly well; but Arkansas doesn’t really make their living from outside either. I think this is a case of two similarly-constructed teams, but where one of them is just way better at it than the other. Give me the Johnnies.
Arkansas vs St. John’s prediction: St. John’s -7 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
