Aston Villa vs Everton Pickswise Expert Predictions
Everton embark on a new era on Wednesday, albeit one with a very familiar feel, when they host Aston Villa with former head coach David Moyes back in charge of the Goodison Park club. Ex-manager Sean Dyche was dismissed last week ahead of the 2-0 FA Cup win over Peterborough and the club moved to bring back Moyes, who enjoyed a successful 11-year stint in charge of the Merseyside team between 2002 and 2013. Dyche’s sacking seems a little harsh as he had steadied the ship after a poor start to the season and as underdogs Everton would have appealed here irrespective of the change in manager.
The return of Moyes should provide an initial boost and Everton’s home form has been fairly solid for a while now, as they have lost just 1 of their last 9 games in normal time at Goodison across all competitions. Aston Villa have 3 wins in their last 5 games but all of those successes have come at home and on the road they’ve struggled of late, with 6 defeats in their last 7 trips across all competitions and 5 successive away league defeats. Everton hold some value as home underdogs and there should be plenty of atmosphere at the stadium following Moyes’ appointment.
