Arsenal vs Chelsea Pickswise Expert Predictions
There seems to have been an overreaction to Arsenal’s recent results and they look excellent value to secure a point at Stamford Bridge. It’s 1 point out of 9 for the Gunners and they lost to Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday, though it’s far less depressing than it sounds. An early red card to William Saliba diminished their chances at Bournemouth and they completely outplayed Liverpool and were unlucky to have to settle for a 2-2 tie. The real disappointment was at Newcastle last weekend when they were deservedly beaten 1-0 and certainly Mikel Arteta, famous for his excuses, rightly offered none. They miss Martin Odegaard but not to the extent that a title challenge depends on the Norwegian’s fitness, and it’s hard to imagine Arteta won’t have fired up his team for a London derby which they need to get something from. That something may well be a tie since, if the league table is your guide, there is only goal difference between the sides.
Chelsea’s record of 1 point out of 9 against top-six teams this season suggests that while there is clearly improvement being made under Enzo Maresca, they are still in a transitional stage. The Blues are conceding fewer shots than Arsenal this season which is a surprise and evidence that Maresca has started to sort out a defense that was often shambolic last season. And therefore a match that has a recent history of being pretty one-sided — Arsenal have won 5 of their last 6 meetings by a 19-5 aggregate scoreline — might be a lot closer this time. All things considered, a tie looks the most likely outcome in this one.
