Senators vs Maple Leafs Pickswise Expert Predictions
We’re moving on to Game 2 of the Eastern Conference first-round series between the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs. In Game 1, the Maple Leafs crushed the Senators 6-2 in this provincial rivals battle. It was a surprise result, as the Under had been 2-0-1 in the regular-season series. That’s why you shouldn’t put too much stock into the trends and stats that occur in the regular season, as the playoffs are a completely different animal. Still, don’t discard the stats and trends completely. The Leafs had lost 5 in a row in the series, too, with Toronto getting its first win since December 7, 2023.
One thing we saw with Ottawa down the stretch is a breakdown on defense and goaltending issues, and that carried over in Game 1. The Senators allowed a total of 19 goals in the final 5 regular-season games, cashing the Over in each of the outings, and they were beaten 6-2 in the opener of this series, so that’s 4.3 goals per game (GPG) allowed. That’s a recipe for easy Over results. Toss in the fact Toronto goaltender Anthony Stolarz was run into in the 3rd period and he appeared to tweak something in the lower body. With all this in mind, the Over looks a good play for tonight’s matchup.
