You would have to look back five games ago for the last Islanders game that eclipsed a total of five goals. They play an extremely boring brand of hockey. Likewise for the Red Wings, three of their last four games have had five goals total or fewer. The Islanders are known for their defensive play, and it starts in net with Ilya Sorokin. He is slated to get the start on Monday, and is sporting a 2.52 GAA and .917 SVP. Led by Sorokin, the Islanders are averaging a solid 2.81 goals against per game. They remain without Mat Barzal, who provides much of the offense for this team. Special teams have been an issue for the Islanders, ranking 31^st and 32^nd in powerplay and penalty kill success rate. The Red Wings have a solid powerplay, but the Islanders are the least penalized team in the NHL, so this shouldn’t be a problem.
