Blue Jackets vs Maple Leafs Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Columbus Blue Jackets head north of the border to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena. Lately, the Blue Jackets have been a thorn in the side of the Maple Leafs, winning three straight meetings in the series, including a 5-1 win as a heavy underdog (+175) in Toronto in the most recent meeting on Jan. 22. Columbus is in the thick of the chase for a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, which would be a wonderful story giving the absolutely tragedy involving Johnny Gaudreau during the offseason. It would be one of the best feel-good things to happen in the NHL in a long time, should Columbus qualify for the postseason.
The Maple Leafs have been playing good hockey lately, though, and they sit atop the Atlantic Division standings. They topped the defending champ Florida Panthers 3-2 last time out, and they’ve won three in a row, while going 7-1-1 in the past nine games. But, those two blemishes are a regulation loss in Nashville, and a shootout loss in San Jose, two non-playoff teams. The Leafs seem to play down to their competition, and while the Blue Jackets are contending for a playoff spot, this isn’t exactly a marquee game. The Leafs could be a little flat in front of the home fans.
Blue Jackets vs Maple Leafs prediction: Blue Jackets +1.5 (-150) at time of publishing. Playable to -160.
