Hurricanes vs Devils Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Carolina Hurricanes will be traveling to New Jersey to take on the Devils for their first game after the holiday break. The Devils entered the break sitting in the top spot in the Metropolitan Division and playing some great hockey. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. These teams have met twice already this season and each team won a game. The Devils will have Jacob Markstrom in goal and he has been lights out as of late. In his last two outings he has posted back-to-back shutouts, and he has not allowed more than two goals against in his last eight starts. This is an elite stretch of hockey for Markstrom. The Devils are a strong team on home ice, they are 11-6-3 at the Prudential Center.
The Hurricanes are no slouch of an opponent, they are ranked top five in the NHL in the goals for category, averaging 3.47 per game. Their penalty kill is elite, operating at an 85.5% success rate. The penalty kill will be crucial as the Devils own the leagues top ranked powerplay unit. This should be a very tight game between two playoff bound opponents. However, with the recent play of the Devils and most specifically Markstrom, I have to give them a slight edge. With home ice on their side, they should be able to defeat the Hurricanes. Give me the Devils on the money line.
Hurricanes vs Devils prediction: Devils ML (-130) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
