Steelers vs Eagles Pickswise Expert Predictions
One of the best games of the weekend takes place in Pennsylvania between a pair of excellent defenses, as the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a potential matchup that we could see down the line come February. While I don’t think this Steelers team is a true contender in the AFC, Mike Tomlin’s team profiles very well as an underdog, which is no surprise given how Tomlin has performed against the spread as an underdog in his career. In fact, Tomlin is 64-35-4 ATS (65%) as an underdog, which makes him the most profitable coach of the last 20 years against the number. Additionally, Russell Wilson is usually great as an underdog, and he’ll be playing with a defense that’s allowed fewer than 20 points per game this season. Pittsburgh’s defense has been the driving force behind its success in 2024, and the Steelers’ success against the run should come in handy against an Eagles offense that is extremely run-heavy, more than any other team in the league. That is a great game script for backing the underdog Steelers in this contest.
As for Philadelphia, this is a team that has played some of its best football of the season over the past 6 weeks. With that said, the Eagles’ offense has been relatively one-dimensional due to Jalen Hurts’ struggles in the passing game. With negative soundbites coming out of the locker room this week, I’m not sure how successful Philadelphia’s passing offense is going to be against a strong Steelers secondary that is 5th in EPA per pass. Look for the Eagles to lean on Saquon Barkley and focus on just getting out of the game with a win, which would effectively seal up another NFC East division crown for Nick Sirriani’s team. Let’s take the Steelers and trust Tomlin as an underdog once again.
