Patriots vs Cardinals Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Patriots are coming off a much-needed bye week and have been tabbed as 5.5-point underdogs in Arizona this weekend. At 3-10, there haven’t been a lot of positives to take from this season. New England has issues in the offensive and defensive lines, secondary and receiving corps. With that said, Drake Maye could be the real deal. The Patriots rookie has exceeded all expectations and has shown a lot of promise against some elite defenses. It’s even more impressive considering his top targets are Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, Kayshon Boutte and Kendrick Bourne. Maye needs help, and that appears to be New England’s top priority in the offseason. But for now, he will have to work with what he’s got. New England has lost 3 straight games to the Rams, Dolphins and Colts by a combined 26 points as their defense has continued to fail them. I’m not expecting a bye week to change New England’s defense all that much.
It was just a few weeks ago that the Cardinals were 6-4 and right in the thick of things. However, Arizona has lost back-to-back-to-back games against the Vikings and Seahawks twice. It’s a little surprising to see the Cardinals struggling so much considering they have Kyler Murray under center, James Conner in the backfield and the duo of Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride as the top options downfield. There’s a lot of talent on the Cardinals’ offense, but the main issue has been Murray’s accuracy. He’s thrown just 3 touchdowns and 5 interceptions during Arizona’s 3-game losing streak. That’s going to need to change if the Cardinals want to keep their playoff hopes alive. This seems like a good bounce-back spot for Arizona, so I’ll back them on the spread on Sunday afternoon.
