DC Defenders vs Vegas Vipers prediction

Despite winning their opening game, the Defenders still find themselves as 3-point underdogs for their trip to Vegas, although that could be justified. DC beat a Seattle team that has struggled thus far and fell to 0-2 on Thursday after losing to St. Louis. Meanwhile, Vegas was edged by the Renegades, who are expected to be among the contenders for the XFL championship this season. With the home crowd behind them, the Vipers should be able to get on the board this week.

DC Defenders vs Vegas Vipers expert picks

We’ve got 2 standout XFL picks for this weekend’s game between the DC Defenders and Vegas Vipers.

Defenders vs Vipers point spread pick: Vipers -3 (-110)

The second week of XFL football will resume here on Saturday as the Vegas Vipers get ready to host the DC Defenders. The Defenders are coming off a thrilling win over Seattle, while Vegas lost a tough one to Arlington after blowing an early lead. Oddsmakers have the Vipers as a favorite of a field goal here, and I am laying the points with the home team. Sure the Defenders won their first game, but only because Seattle melted down, and they did virtually nothing on offense all game. Starting quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, the former Texas A&M star, completed just eight of 19 passes for 86 yards and an interception. On the flip side, Vegas actually played quite well despite losing their opener.

Their passing game arguably looked the best of any team in the league, as Luis Perez was able to consistently move the ball and threw three touchdowns. Perez had the third most passing yards of any quarterback in the league, and about three times as many as Ta’amu. That’s likely in large part due to the fact that the Vipers have what seems to be clearly the most talented receiving corp in the league. Jeff Badet had 81 yards and two touchdowns last week, and they also have Geronimo Allison and Martavis Bryant who both had a lot of success at the NFL level. DC’s passing game was virtually non-existent with Ta’amu last week, and they only averaged 2.5 yards per carry on the ground, so they won’t be able to count on their running game to bail them out here.

Defenders vs Vipers Over/Under totals pick: Over 35.5 (-110)

I am also playing the over in this one. For starters I’m pretty bullish on Vegas’ offense, and they’ve got as good of a receiving corps as you could possibly hope for in an upstart league like this. Jeff Badet, Geronimo Allison and Martavis Bryant could all be playing in the NFL right now. The Vipers attempted 36 passes last week compared to only 15 runs, so they seem intent on airing it out.

Ta’amu had a rough Week 1 for the Defenders, but he has had plenty of success in the pros and led the USFL in passing last year so I think he’ll be fine. DC ran the ball a ton last week and only averaged 2.5 yards per carry, so I’d expect them to be less conservative here and let it rip more. The Defenders just gave up 282 yards to Ben DiNucci last week, so I’m not too worried about their defense.
