Wise n' Shine: World Cup picks, NHL and NBA best bets for Wednesday, November 23

Good morning, Pickswise Nation, and welcome to another wonderful day of sports. The World Cup continues today with several intriguing matches, and there’s also NBA, NHL, college football and college basketball action today. Let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

Ben and the Nets flop in his Philly return
In his highly anticipated return to Philadelphia, Ben Simmons and the Nets came up short. Brooklyn lost 115-106 in a game in which they were favored by nearly 8 points. Simmons put up 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to beat his former team. Around the NBA, the Kings continue to impress with their 113-109 win over Ja Morant and the Grizzlies, and the Pistons, while the Suns beat the Lakers.

Saudi Arabia shock Argentina in World Cup
Saudi Arabia were +2200 underdogs to beat pre-tournament World Cup favorites Argentina, but the Saudis pulled off one of the biggest shocks ever as they prevailed 2-1. Meanwhile, we hit our pick on Olivier Giroud to score against Australia at +125 odds, as he found the net twice in France’s 4-1 victory.

NBA returns in force
After just a 4-game slate yesterday, the NBA returns with a 12-game slate today. There are several eye-catching matchups like Luka Doncic and the Mavericks shipping up to Boston to take on Jayson Tatum and the Celtics, and DeMar DeRozan and the Bulls taking on the Greek Freak and the Bucks. Best Bet of the Day

NBA: 76ers vs Hornets Over 214.5 (-110)
7:00 pm ET

The projected total of 214.5 points sounds ambitious considering how many players are out for both teams, but I’m still going say tonight’s game has the potential to go over that number. The two teams are averaging 231.2 points per game over the last 10 meetings and the O/U numbers are 7-2-1 during that stretch. Charlotte doesn’t care all that much about defense — they allow the 7th highest number of points per game at 115.2 a night. Over the last 3 games, that number has jumped to 121. Philly just scored 115 against the Brooklyn Nets and although their offensive numbers won’t wow you, I still feel like they’ll put up enough here to push us over this modest total. Be sure to check out our full 76ers vs Hornets predictions.
