Good morning Pickswise Nation and welcome to Wise n’ Shine, your one-stop shop for everything you need to know to bet better today!

After the MLB playoffs got underway with an intriguing Yankees/Red Sox showdown, we now turn our attention to Los Angeles with the Dodgers taking on the Cardinals. Let’s get into it!

About Last Night

Red Sox eliminate Yankees
The wild-card games of the MLB playoffs started with the Boston Red Sox eliminating the New York Yankees 6-2. Nathan Eovaldi pitched a great game for the Sox, striking out 8 guys in just over 5 innings, and left the Pickswise Nation cheering as we picked Boston to prevail at +105. We were looking good to cash the under, too, but had to make do with the push after the Yankees scored a run in the 9th inning. The Red Sox are now +850 to win the World Series.

Today’s Slate

Cardinals meet Dodgers in NL Wild Card
The second of the two MLB playoffs wild-card games takes place as the Cardinals battle the Dodgers. The Dodgers are the hot -230 favorites, which is understandable given they finished the season with the second-best record in MLB and have crushed countless teams. However, anything can happen in a one-game scenario, and given the way the Cardinals finished the season, it will be interesting to see what happens. Make sure you check out our same game parlay for the huge matchup at +1101 odds!

Best Bet of the Day

Under 7.5 total runs in Cardinals vs Dodgers
8:10pm ET, TBS

Max Scherzer takes the mound for Los Angeles while Adam Wainwright will start for St. Louis, and this one has pitchers’ duel written all over it. Scherzer has been lights out since getting traded from the Nationals, with a 1.98 ERA in 11 starts with his new team. He just faced this same Cardinals lineup about a month ago, and gave up zero earned runs across 8.0 innings while striking out 13. Wainwright is coming off a fantastic season, as well, as the 40-year-old showed no signs of decline while putting up a 3.05 ERA. This one should be very low-scoring. Make sure you read our full game preview for Cardinals vs Dodgers.

Boost of the day

Max Scherzer to have 8+ strikeouts and Dodgers to win vs Cardinals

Scherzer recorded 13 strikeouts the last time he played against the Cardinals, and you can get +230 odds (boosted from +170) with FanDuel Sportsbook for him to record 8 or more and for the Dodgers to win.
