Wise n' Shine: NFL picks and MLB predictions for Thursday, September 8

Good morning, Pickswise nation! The NFL season is officially BACK tonight as the Buffalo Bills take on the Los Angeles Rams, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

New York sweeps the day
It was a day of doubleheaders as both the Mets-Pirates and the Twins-Yankees played two yesterday, and both New York teams swept the day. The AL Wild Card race continues to get more exciting as the Rays beat the Red Sox, the Blue Jays beat the Orioles and the White Sox beat the Mariners. Is it too little too late for the O’s? Our experts went 10-7 on their ML/RL picks, while props expert JutPicks enjoyed a 2-0 day.

Today’s Slate

NFL season kicks off
The words you’ve all been waiting for: the NFL is back! The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams start the 2022 NFL season, in what could be a Super Bowl preview, tonight at 8:20 pm ET on NBC. Be sure to check out our Bills vs Rams predictions.

MLB has a small but solid slate
There are only 7 MLB games on Thursday as most of the country will have their eyes focused on the NFL, but there are still quality matchups in baseball such as a doubleheader between the Giants and Brewers, along with a highly anticipated Twins-Yankees game. Read today’s MLB picks.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals -1.5 over Washington Nationals
1:15 pm ET

Josiah Gray looks like the future of the Washington rotation. He has been pretty good in his first full season in the Majors but does not have the ceilings of the likes of Max Scherzer or Stephen Strasburg (few do). Most of the time, he is giving the team a chance. While Gray is just getting his career started, Adam Wainwright is finishing up a strong tenure with the Cardinals. The big righty was good in August with a 2.50 ERA, and there is no reason to expect him to fade in September – he is already off to a 1-0 start. Read our full Nationals vs Cardinals predictions.
