Good morning, Pickswise Nation! The Open wraps up on Sunday and we’ve still got plenty of baseball to enjoy, plus F1 and NASCAR action on the track, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better.
About Last Night
Wild night on the diamond
Saturday was another jam-packed day of MLB action, with the biggest result coming in the AL East, as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays to claim sole possession of first place. Elsewhere, the Dodgers demolished the Rangers, the Mariners beat the Blue Jays and the A’s upset the Astros in Oakland.
Harman closes in on Open crown
The story of the British Open continues to be Brian Harman, as he now holds a 5-shot lead over Cameron Young and a 6-shot edge over John Rahm, who shot 8-under par as part of a terrific Saturday afternoon stretch of golf. Sepp Straka and Jason Day round out the top 5, but the chase for the Open Championship feels like a 3-horse race at this point. Harman is just 18 holes away from a historic victory at Royal Liverpool Golf Course.

Best Bet of the Day
MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers ML (-110) over Texas Rangers
2:35 pm ET
While this series might not be a potential World Series preview, it does feel as if Los Angeles is gearing up for a strong stretch run to close the season. The Dodgers have emerged from the All-Star break winning 3 consecutive series on the road. This team is far from perfect, but the quartet at the top of their lineup (Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, J.D. Martinez and Will Smith) is as good as it gets this season. Los Angeles as a team is seeing the ball very well of late, and they should feast on Martin Perez, who ranks inside the bottom 10 percentile in xBA, xERA, strikeout percentage and SLG.
Opposing Perez will be rookie Emmett Sheehan, who has regressed to the mean a bit in recent outings after a terrific start. However, given that Corey Seager appears likely to miss Sunday’s game with a thumb injury, that makes Sheehan’s job noticeably easier. After all, the right-hander still has outstanding stuff and should be able to put together 5 or 6 strong innings of work. This one should be a close game, but I trust the more experienced side to pull it out. Read our full MLB predictions.
