Good morning, Pickswise nation! The NFL season gets underway tomorrow, and today we have a full MLB slate, plus U.S. Open tennis and UEFA Champions League, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

Wild night of baseball
The MLB slate on Tuesday was an eventful one, as a number of heavy favorites lost outright — including the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers. The Atlanta Braves were also heavy favorites and knocked off the Oakland A’s, but they failed to cover the run line. Overall, favorites still remained profitable despite some unusual results. There were four games decided in the 9th inning, including walk-off victories for the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres. The race for the AL East also got tighter, as the Tampa Bay Rays closed to within 4.5 games of the New York Yankees with their victory on Tuesday.

Today’s Slate

Bumper 17-game MLB slate today
There are 17 games to enjoy today, with action getting started bright and early at 12:35 pm ET for Mets-Pirates. Gerrit Cole is set to start for the Yankees against the Twins as those teams will play a double-header. The slate ultimately runs through to the AL West, as the Astros take on the Rangers at 8:40 pm ET on FS1. Be sure to check out all of today’s MLB predictions.

Tennis and soccer take center stage
Nick Kyrgios is out of the U.S. Open men’s field, but the tennis action continues at Flushing Meadows and Ricky Dimon has his U.S. Open Day 10 best bets. There’s also midweek soccer action as the Champions League group stage continues with Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all in action. Read today’s best Champions League soccer picks.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Atlanta Braves -1.5 over Oakland Athletics
3:35 pm ET

Braves starter Spencer Strider is the favorite for NL Rookie of the Year, and it’s for good reason. In fact, Strider holds a 2.67 ERA and a 2.44 xERA with a stunning 38.1% strikeout rate on the season. Not only will he be pitching in a friendly ballpark for road pitchers, but the rookie has been excellent away from home this season. Opponents have been limited to just a .169 batting average in 50 innings, and we wouldn’t expect that to change here. He’s also been incredible since the all-star break with a 2.01 ERA while limiting opponents to a .177 batting average. So if the Cardinals, Astros and Mets couldn’t hit Strider, we highly doubt the awful Athletics lineup can do any damage. Read our full Braves vs Athletics predictions.
