Welcome to another wonderful week of sports, Pickswise Nation! The NFL preseason is over and the real thing starts with Bills vs Rams in just 10 days. Tonight’s MLB slate and the U.S. Open tennis are the main sources of Monday’s entertainment, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

Rory roared home by Pickswise Nation
Rory McIlroy fired a closing 66 to overhaul Scottie Scheffler and become the first player to win the Tour Championship 3 times on Sunday. That was great news for those who tailed Diane Knox Balas’s picks for the tournament as McIlroy had been one of her selections at +1400!

MLB Best Bet streak reaches 4-0
Our 3-star baseball plays are on a heater, and we cashed one for the 4th straight day as Astros covered the -1.5 run line in a 3-1 win over the Orioles, despite losing Justin Verlander to an injury after just 3 innings. There were some upsets on Sunday with Patrick Corbin getting a rare win for the Nationals — 3-2 over the Reds — while the Pirates beat the Phillies 5-0 and the Rockies won 1-0 against the Mets.

Steelers yet to name starting QB
The NFL preseason ended as everyone expected with the Jets and Steelers completing unbeaten campaigns. The Jets won a dramatic Battle of New York over the Giants 31-27, with Mike White and Chris Streveler both looking better at QB than Joe Flacco, who could still start in Week 1 if Zach Wilson is not cleared to play. The Steelers also went 3-0, beating the Lions 19-9, but have yet to name their starting QB for Week 1 against the Bengals.

With the preseason in the books, the Bills are +600 Super Bowl favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook, with the Buccaneers +750, the Chiefs +1000, the Rams +1100 and the Packers +1200.

Today’s Slate

MLB has 8 great games on Monday
There’s no early action in the MLB today, but there are 8 games this evening with Padres vs Giants on ESPN+ at 9:45 pm ET. You can read our previews for all today’s MLB games.

U.S. Open tennis gets started
There’s no Novak Djokovic but there are still great tennis bets to be had in New York over the next two weeks and Ricky Dimon has the best plays for U.S. Open Day 1.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Minnesota Twins ML over Boston Red Sox
7:40 pm ET

The Boston pitching staff has taken another hit with Nathan Eovaldi on the injured list and rookie Brayan Bello is starting this game. Meanwhile, the Twins get to remain in Minnesota where they just won their weekend series over the Giants. They have an established starter on the mound with Dylan Bundy. Despite going down to the AL-best Astros in his most recent start, he hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in any of his 4 starts. The Sox have been unable to close out games, and it’s going to be all the more difficult with Bello on the mound. Boston has lost all 6 appearances he has made in his short career and looks set to make it 7 today. Check out our full Red Sox vs Twins predictions.
