Wise n' Shine: MLB best bets, NBA and NHL picks for Wednesday, April 12

Good morning, Pickswise Nation, and welcome to another wonderful Wednesday of sports. The NBA play-in tournament continues today with 2 games, but there’s also plenty of action in the MLB and NHL, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

They’re best bets for a reason
It was an excellent day to tail our best bets across the MLB and NHL. In the MLB, our best bets were 3-1 with the Twins winning, and the Rangers and Brewers both covering their respective run lines. In the NHL, we were a perfect 2-0 as the Flyers won their matchup and the Hurricanes won in regulation.

MLB player props are on fire
Grayson Rodriguez recorded 6 strikeouts in his second MLB start which cashed the over in his strikeout prop, which was our MLB expert’s best player prop of the day. That extended our MLB player prop streak to 8 wins in our last 11 bets! With a packed slate on Wednesday, our experts are back in the lab cooking up some more winners.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals vs Colorado Rockies Over 12.5 runs
8:40 pm ET

Through 2 starts this season, Urena has allowed 10 runs and 12 hits with 7 walks in just 5 innings. That’s a .462 batting average and an absurd 1.520 OPS for opposing hitters this season. However, the most concerning part is that his advanced metrics don’t indicate that improvement is in the near future. A prime example of this is Urena’s .417 xBA, which ranks in the 1st percentile. That means although a .462 batting average against is laughably high, Urena hasn’t been getting that lucky and hitters are still supposed to have a batting average well over .400. These two offenses could easily reach a dozen runs, so I’m taking the over 12.5 in Colorado. Read our full Cardinals vs Rockies predictions.
