Good morning, Pickswise Nation. Week 4 in the NFL has come and gone, so it’s time to start looking ahead toward Week 5. Even though it’s an off-day from football, the Major League Baseball season is less than 48 hours away from concluding and there are an insane 18 games on today’s schedule.

Without further ado, let’s get right to it and make your next bet better with Wise n’ Shine!

About Last Night

49ers put the clamps down on Rams to cap off our 13-1-1 ATS week
Just when you thought our NFL picks could not get any better, we cashed both 49ers -1 and Under 42.5 on Monday Night Football. That made our NFL experts 13-1-1 against the spread in Week 4. Meanwhile, the Niners’ 24-9 victory over the Rams means all 4 NFC West teams are now 2-2.

Postseason field set after Phillies clinch NL wild-card spot
We know with certainty the 12 teams that will compete in the 2022 MLB postseason after the Phillies locked up the third final wild-card spot in the National League. Philadelphia clinched it with a 3-0 victory over Houston, thus eliminating Milwaukee.

Today’s Slate

Three double-headers, 18 MLB games in total
It’s a rare day with no NFL or college football action, so Major League Baseball picked a good time to unleash its busiest schedule of the entire year. There were 2 planned double-headers already on the menu and then Monday’s Nationals-Mets game got rained out by the remnants of Hurricane Ian. New York must sweep the twin bill and get another Atlanta loss in Miami to stay in NL East contention. Be sure to read all of our MLB predictions.

Champions League group stage continues
Round-robin action in the Champions League resumes on Tuesday. There are 8 games on the schedule and we have a 3-star best bet on a crucial contest between Inter Milan and Barcelona, who are both 1-1-0. Check out all of our soccer picks.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles Over 7 (-120)
7:05 pm ET

The starting pitching matchup in game 2 of this series between the Blue Jays and Orioles is unspectacular at best. Baltimore is starting rookie Mike Baumann. He was thrust back into the rotation almost exactly a month ago after having pitched just 1 game since May. Baumann has been back-and-forth between the rotation and the bullpen and he endured quite a rough September. The Orioles lost all 5 of his appearances, which began with a start against none other than the Blue Jays. That was a 7-3 win for Toronto. Mitch White is going for the Jays and the last time he faced the O’s he surrendered 5 runs in 2.1 innings of a 9-6 Toronto loss. His 2 most recent outings have resulted in game totals of 16 and 11 runs. Be sure to check out our full Blue Jays vs Orioles predictions.

Stat of the Day

The Oakland Athletics are 3-8 in their last 11 games, including 1-6 in their last 7 against the Angels. Now Oakland is sending Cole Irvin to the mound after he compiled an 8.23 ERA and 1.79 WHIP during the month of September.

Quote of the Day

“I thought we needed a spark, man. We didn’t do much in the first half – not enough offensively – and I thought he could provide a spark for us.”

— Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin on replacing Mitch Trubisky with Kenny Pickett during Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Pickett rushed for 2 touchdowns but threw 3 interceptions in a 24-20 loss. It was confirmed on Monday that Pickett will be the starting quarterback moving forward.
