The Mets won, and so did our best bet
Jacob deGrom is still very good at baseball. The Mets’ ace threw 6.0 innings and allowed just 3 hits while recording 9 strikeouts en route to the Mets’ 3-1 win over the Rockies, covering our best bet of Mets -1.5. Another notable game in the MLB was a 10-inning slugfest between the Blue Jays and Red Sox that ended with a 6-5 win for Toronto, who completed the sweep over Boston.
Today’s Slate
A full MLB slate returns
After a small slate on Thursday night, the MLB is back with a 15-game slate on Friday. There will be no day baseball, so the first game will be at 6:40 pm ET as the Dodgers will take on the Marlins in Miami. The games will continue all night and the Guardians-Mariners will cap off the day with a 10:10 pm ET start. You can read our previews for all today’s MLB games here.

There were 2 NFL games on Thursday night, kicking off the final week of the NFL preseason with wins for the Chiefs and Texans, and we are treated to 4 more games on Friday night, including Seahawks vs Cowboys on NFL Network at 8:00pm ET. Check out our NFL picks for today’s slate.

MLB: Atlanta Braves ML (-140) over St. Louis Cardinals

The Braves have been as hot as ever recently, and there’s no reason to start doubting them now. They’ve won 6 of their last 7 games, and are coming off a 14-2 thrashing of the Pirates. Before that were back-to-back series wins against the American League-best Astros and the Mets. Taking 3 of 4 games against New York has helped them get to within just a couple of games for the NL East lead. Although the Cardinals are a superior opponent to the Pirates, the Braves should transition their last win into another one in St. Louis. They’ll even have the benefit of being the ones with the rest day heading into this series. The lefty Jose Quintana looks to be in for a long night, as the Braves are the 3rd-best lineup in the league against lefties this season. Read our full preview of Braves vs Cardinals
