Weather is a massive part of NFL handicapping, especially when it comes to betting totals. It’s even more essential to study the weather reports this time of year, when things are more wet and cold back East. Today we’ll be taking a look at the Week 16 NFL slate, and what games might be impacted by mother nature, with games being played in domes not included:
Redskins @ Titans
Looks like perfect weather here in Nashville for this Saturday day game. It’s supposed to be sunny with a temperature somewhere around 50 degrees and a zero percent chance of rain.
Ravens @ Chargers
Also a clean bill of weather for this Saturday night primetime showdown between two of the AFC’s best teams. It’ll be a typically warm Los Angeles evening with no chance of rain and very little wind.
Falcons @ Panthers
The Panthers will be without quarterback Cam Newton for this one, but fortunately the skies will be clear for Taylor Heinicke’s first career start. It’ll be sunny and in the low-50’s.
Bengals @ Browns
The first game on the board that could be seriously impacted by weather is the Cincinnati/Cleveland game. It’ll be overcast with temperatures in the 30’s, and there is a small chance of some snow, with reasonably strong winds expected. This will be an important one to monitor.
Jaguars @ Dolphins
It’s a true Miami winter here as the weather will be absolutely perfect. Clear skies and temperatures in the low 70’s.
Bills @ Patriots
It looks like this one might be a little cold, but the weather shouldn’t impact things too much in this must-win game for the Patriots. Both of these teams are from the Northeast and used to dealing with the cold, so it shouldn’t be too much of a factor since it’ll be sunny out with not too much wind expected.
Packers @ Jets
Almost the same exact story as the Patriots game here, as it should be a chilly afternoon with two teams both used to cold temperatures.
Texans @ Eagles
Yet another game that should be pretty brisk, but with minimal effect on the game. It’ll be in the low 40’s with plenty of sun, and wind that shouldn’t be too much of a factor. Winds are currently expected to be 8MPH, and if that increases a little bit it could start to impact passing.
Bears @ 49ers
This game should have temperatures in the high 50’s, with the lowest projected wind of any game currently. The total on this one is already pretty low, but it doesn’t have anything to do with the weather.
Chiefs @ Seahawks
The Sunday night game and perhaps the best matchup of the week could end up getting impacted by weather here. There’s currently around a 20% chance of significant rain, as well as winds in the low double digits. It’ll be very important to monitor here, as the rain and wind could slow down Kansas City’s potent passing attack.
Broncos @ Raiders
The Monday night Christmas Eve game could end up having the most significant weather of the slate. There’s a small chance it rains, but it’s likely to be extremely windy. Winds are currently expected to be around 15MPH, which will significantly alter passes.
