Much like in the NBA, the Dallas Stars could be in the midst of their own improbable comeback after trailing 3-0 in the NHL Western Conference Finals. Dallas was once down 3-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights and on the brink of elimination. Since then, the Stars have thoroughly outplayed the Golden Knights en route to forcing a Game 6 on home ice.
Will Dallas send this series back to Vegas, or can the Golden Knights close things out and set up a date with the Florida Panthers? We’ll find out when the puck drops at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN. Let’s get into our picks, predictions, best bets and odds for Vegas Golden Knights vs Dallas Stars.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Dallas Stars expert picks
Golden Knights vs Stars alternate puck line pick: Golden Knights -1.5 (+250)
Vegas has failed to close out this series twice and played very poorly on Saturday night. The Golden Knights turned over the puck a whopping 24 times, which just isn’t a winning recipe. We can expect them to clean things up for tonight’s game, but there are still a couple of things that need to happen for them to be successful.
The first is Adin Hill and his ability to stop pucks. He wasn’t bad in Game 5, but he gave up a soft third goal and Vegas was never able to recover. If the Golden Knights are going to lock up this series, they need their goalie to be very good. The second is finding ways to generate penalties. They had only one opportunity in the last game and that means that they weren’t keeping their feet moving.
Dallas is getting Jamie Benn back for this game now that he has served his 2-game suspension and that’s going to create a buzz in the Dallas locker room. They need to take that momentum and turn it into a positive for them. One way to cut momentum is to force your opponent to take penalties. If they can do these things, then they should be able to come away with the win. I’ll target some extra value and go with the puck line. If Vegas is leading late in the third period, then there’s a good chance they can lock things up with an empty-net goal.
Golden Knights vs Stars over/under total goals pick: Over 5.5 (-114)
The teams combined to score 6 goals in Game 5, but that doesn’t mean we are going to see a ton of scoring chances tonight. Jake Oettinger hasn’t been great in the playoffs, but he has played a lot better of late. Having Jamie Benn back in the lineup is also a nice boost to the Dallas offense. The main factor that could help push the over is the man advantage. There was only 1 penalty called in Game 5 and it’s unlikely that we will see that happening again. Both teams like to be physical and the Stars have had their moments when they’ve been undisciplined.
Vegas also turned the puck over 24 times in the last game, and while we should expect the Golden Knights to clean things up, it’s still something to take into consideration. Dallas forcing that many turnovers on the road is a positive and it’s something they can easily do again on home ice. Scoring chances may not be plentiful, but the puck should still find the back of the net. We are also going to be rooting for an empty-net goal, which could happen if either team is leading late in the third period.
