A busy summer schedule – complete with the Paris Olympics – finally comes to an end with the US Open, which begins on Monday, August 26 in New York. World #1 Iga Swiatek is nowhere near as good on hard courts as she is on clay, which makes the title pretty much up for grabs. Coco Gauff snagged the title last year, but the American has struggled this season. That leaves 2023 runner-up and recent Cincinnati champion Aryna Sabalenka as the favorite. Let’s take a look at the latest US Open odds and tennis best bets to be made on the women’s singles side at the 2024 US Open.

U.S. Open tennis 3-star best bet: Jessica Pegula (+1400)
Odds aside, I would pick Sabalenka to win the tournament. That being said, there is not any real value on her as a +250 favorite. Instead, I would rather throw my eggs into a +1400 basket in the form of Jessica Pegula. Pegula’s draw is not great as she is in the same quarter as Swiatek, but at least the American is on the opposite side from Sabalenka. Plus, she is playing well enough to beat anyone right now.
Pegula is coming off a red-hot stretch at the two WTA Premier 1000 tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati, winning the former and finishing runner-up to Sabalenka at the latter. Although the 30-year-old has underachieved in majors during her career, this is the time and the place for her to break through. She is a native New Yorker (daughter of Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula) and she loves hard courts, so it’s a great combination.
U.S. Open tennis 2-star best bet: Jasmine Paolini (+3200)
Paolini was thought to be a borderline clay-court specialist prior to this season, but it’s safe to say that she has established herself as an all-court player. The Italian captured a 1000-point title on the hard courts of Dubai in February, was runner-up on the red clay of Roland Garros in June and reached another Grand Slam final on the grass of Wimbledon in July. Paolini has not done much since leaving the All-England Club, but that will have her well-rested and ready to go for the season’s fourth and final Grand Slam. The world #4 has a favorable draw in Elena Rybakina’s section of the bracket, where they would not face Sabalenka until the championship match.

U.S. Open tennis 1-star best bet: Paula Badosa (+5000)
Longshots are probably the way to play this tournament, as it comes at the end of a grueling summer schedule with very few players at their physical best. Moreover, neither Swiatek nor Sabalenka – the undisputed 2 best players in the world – has ever lifted the U.S. Open trophy. With no dominant force in the field, the door is open. Despite what the odds say, Badosa could be the one to take advantage.
The 26-year-old once climbed as high as #2 in the rankings, so it’s clear she has the talent to win a major. Back from an extended injury absence, a resurgent Badosa captured the Washington, D.C. title earlier this month and made a run to the Cincinnati semifinals before falling to Pegula in a tight 3-setter. The Spaniard has a great draw in New York, where she is in the same section as an ice-cold Gauff. It all sets up perfectly for Badosa.
