Champions League pick today: Borussia Dortmund ML vs Sevilla (-235), 3:00 pm ET

Sevilla is having a difficult time in both La Liga and the Champions League this season and things could get a lot worse at Dortmund. The Spanish team has just 1 win in 11 league and cup games and it is difficult to see the form of last week’s 4-1 home loss against Dortmund being turned around.

The German team showed just how powerful it is on attack on that occasion and boosted its confidence by coming back from 2 goals down against Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich to earn a tie this past Saturday. Because of the poor form shown by Sevilla, backing Dortmund on the money line looks to be the safest play for Tuesday’s game.

MLB pick today: Houston Astros -1.5 over Seattle Mariners (+105), 3:37 pm ET

The Mariners shocked the Blue Jays with a 2-game sweep in Toronto during the wild-card series behind excellent pitching in Game 1 and a lot of luck in Game 2. However, the Blue Jays were not a complete team.

That’s a problem the Astros don’t have, as they are the most complete team in the postseason. And to no surprise, soon-to-be AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander will start Game 1 for the Astros. It was a historic regular season for Verlander, who posted an ERA of 1.75. He got better with time, as well, compiling an ERA of 1.51 and limited hitters to a .170 batting average in the second half of the season. Verlander was dominant this season against the Mariners and the Astros have every advantage in this game, therefore backing them on the run line looks to be the best play.

NHL pick today: New York Rangers ML over Tampa Bay Lightning (-115), 7:35 pm ET

The Lightning spent their offseason extending younger players — like defensemen Mikhail Sergachev — while also having to make tough choices on veterans like trading defensemen Ryan McDonagh to the Predators and letting forward Ondrej Palat leave to the Devils in free agency.

The Rangers lost a few players, themselves, this offseason, with forwards Ryan Strome and Andrew Copp leaving in free agency. However, the Rangers picked up forward Vincent Trocheck and should see growth out of their younger players, like 2020 top pick Alexis Lafreniere.

With the Lightning having too many questions in their lineup for opening night, look for the Rangers, who still have reigning Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin between the pipes, to get their retribution.

MLB pick today: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 over San Diego Padres (-105), 9:37 pm ET

The Padres are projected to start right-hander Mike Clevinger. He had a decent season, going 7-7 in 22 starts with an ERA of 4.25. However, there is concern with how Clevinger finished out the season — completing last month with an ERA of 7.83 in 5 starts.

The Dodgers will go with right-hander Julio Urias. He was great all year, going 17-7 in 31 starts with an ERA of 2.16. Unlike Clevinger, Urias was strong down the stretch — carrying an ERA of 1.52 in his last 7 starts. For that reason, look for a rested Dodgers team that went 14-5 against the Padres in the regular season to start off their playoffs with a win.
