NBA pick today: Charlotte Hornets +8 over Toronto Raptors (-110), 7:40 pm ET
The teams have been similarly matched offensively over the last 10 games. They rank 24th and 27th, respectively, in offensive rating and 27th and 29th in true shooting percentage. And while the Raptors have been better defensively, the Hornets have still ranked in the top half of the league in defensive rating.
PJ Washington and Jalen McDaniels have the physical attributes to match up well against the Raptors’ forwards. Pascal Siakam can cause trouble for most forwards with his handle, but Washington should have the ability to stay in front of him. At the guard positions, Dennis Smith Jr. and Terry Rozier can both be very physical defenders who can cause Fred VanVleet issues. If the Raptors leaders struggle to get their offense going due to their matchups, the Hornets are unlikely to get blown out.

NHL pick today: Calgary Flames ML over St. Louis Blues (-170), 8:07 pm ET
The Blues return home after a 3-0 defeat to the Minnesota Wild this past Sunday night. With a record of 20-18-3 and sitting 5th in the Central Division, the Blues are trying to get back to a playoff position. Going against a strong Flames team tonight, I look for a tough game for the Blues at home with all their injuries.
The Flames, on the other hand, continue their road trip with a stop in St. Louis after a surprising 4-3 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night. Sitting in 4th in the Pacific Division with a record of 19-14-8, the Flames are looking to gain some separation in their hunt for the playoffs. Going against a deflated Blues team tonight, backing the Flames to win looks to be the best play.

College basketball pick today: Villanova Wildcats vs DePaul Blue Demons – Over 141.5 points (-105), 9:00 pm ET
In the past 2 games ‘Nova is good for 76.5 ppg, which is 5 points more than the team’s season average. Defensively, Villanova is also rather challenged, allowing a so-so 68.3 ppg, but allowing 34.6% from behind the 3-point line — which is very subpar. That’s good news for Over bettors, who have seen the Over cash in 8 of the past 11 games on the road for Villanova, while going 6-1 in the past 7 against teams with a losing overall record.
The Blue Demons, on the other hand, have allowed at least 74 points in five consecutive games, while yielding 70 or more points in 11 of the past 12 outings. As such, DePaul has some eye-popping Over numbers. The Over is 19-7 in the past 26 home games at Wintrust Arena, while going 7-1-1 in the past 9 games following a straight-up loss. The Over is also 10-1 in the past 11 home games against teams with a losing road record, for which Villanova certainly qualifies.
We have seen the Over cash in 4 of the past 5 meetings in this series, too, while going 6-1-1 in the previous 8 meetings dating back to Dec. 27, 2017. That includes each of the previous 4 encounters in suburban Chicago, too. For that reason backing the Over looks to be the best play.

NBA pick today: Dallas Mavericks vs Los Angeles Clippers – Under 221.5 points (-105), 10:40 pm ET
Only 204 points were scored in the game played in Dallas mid-November, it was the 3rd time in the last 5 meetings we saw less than 205 points between the 2 teams. In fact, if we expand our search to the last 3 seasons, none of the last 8 meetings has gone over 220.5 points which is tonight’s projected total.
We could be in for another one of those games again, as Dallas ranks 29th in pace while the Clippers are 23rd. In terms of offensive efficiency, the Clippers are 27th averaging just 108.2 points per 100 possessions and they’ll be without a very important player in Paul George here. With just 207.7 points per game averaged between the 2 teams over the past 10 meetings, and the Clippers being 3-17 on the O/U at home this season, backing the Under will be the play.
