Each week, we’ll be bringing you the best names to look for on your fantasy hockey waiver wire. Still being early in the season, there are lots of good names to pickup who are still owned in a relatively low percentage of leagues. Here’s who to look for and put a claim in on your fantasy hockey waiver wire pickups for week 4:

Forwards:

David Perron – Saint Louis Blues

Perron had a breakout season with the Golden Knights and scored a career high 66 points, and now finds himself back with the Blues for his third stint with the team. He has ten points in ten games so far this year, and is still only owned in around a third of Yahoo leagues. That probably won’t last long if he continues this consistent scoring production. He’s getting a ton of run on the power play, and that should continue for the foreseeable future.

Alex Tuch, RW – Vegas Golden Knights

Tuch is still owned in a very low percentage of leagues, less than 5% in ESPN leagues, and should be available in most formats. He had a bit of a slow start this season mostly due to injury, but has really come alive lately. He scored a pair of goals in Vegas’ win over Ottawa on Sunday, and came into 2018 after a red-hot 2017 playoffs. In 20 playoff games he had six goals, and he’s picking up right where he left off. In the three games following his return from injury, he notched 16 shots on goal, and should continue to see a ton of volume moving forward.

Defensemen:

Neal Pionk, D – New York Rangers

If you’re in need of a defender, Pionk is the way to look. He’s only owned in 13 percent of Yahoo leagues, but is receiving a ton of playing time on a very bad Rangers team. He’s consistently seeing above 25 minutes per game on the ice, and also gets run on power plays. Over his last six games he has six assists, and he should continue to rack up assists. There aren’t other many options on this New York squad, so Pionk will be locked into very heavy minutes, and therefore a ton of points.

Dennis Cholowski, D – Detroit Red Wings

I prefer Pionk, but Cholowski isn’t a bad option either. Like Pionk he’s also playing on a terrible team, and should similarly be locked into heavy minutes moving forward. He’s already scored five points on power plays, and I think he’s a really sneaky add in deep leagues. He’s only 20, so there’s a ton of upside there. The Red Wings won’t have much to play for down the stretch, so a lot of time will be spent developing Cholowski.

Goalies:

David Rittich, Calgary Flames

I like Rittich if you want to add an extra goalie. Starter Mike Smith has struggled pretty bad recently, which is opening the door for Rittich. He’s gotten the start three times this season, and has only allowed six goals in those three starts. If Smith continues to struggle, which I suspect he will, Rittich should see more and more playing time moving forward and perhaps eventually take over the job full-time.
