Following the every other day NHL schedule of big and small slates, Sunday lands on the latter. There are just 2 games today after a huge 15-game slate yesterday. The Flames visit the Red Wings and the Bruins go to the Ducks to complete the NHL weekend. The start of the 2023-24 NHL season has not disappointed and today’s small slate serves as a nice palate-cleanser after a crazy first couple of weeks. Even with just 2 games, there is plenty of betting value on the board.
You can also find out our NHL predictions for both of today’s matchups, but for now, let’s dive into our best NHL prop bets.
David Perron over 0.5 points (+120)
The Red Wings look great to start the season. They are 4-1-0 and appear to be clicking on all cylinders. Since losing their season opener, Detroit has won 4-straight games over Tampa Bay, Columbus, Pittsburgh and Ottawa by a combined 12 goals. The Red Wings have a good chance to collect a 5th consecutive win on Sunday. If they can get the job done again against Calgary, look for David Perron to be in the mix.
Perron has a goal and 2 assists in the last 2 games, which were against good teams as the Penguins and Senators look solid to start the year. Perron consistently puts himself in a good position to produce both even strength and on the team’s top power play. In his first season with the Red Wings last year, Perron played in all 82 games and tallied 24 goals and 56 points. He has found a good spot on a good team and gets favorable value to log a point on Sunday.
David Pastrnak anytime goalscorer (-130)
The Bruins appear to have picked up right where they left off in the last regular season, as has their star David Pastrnak. Boston is 4-0-0 to start the season and Pastrnak has 5 goals and 3 assists for an average of over a goal and 2 points per game. He and the Bruins have a great chance to pad those stats over the next 3 games as they play Anaheim today, Chicago on Tuesday and Anaheim again on Thursday.
The Ducks are 1-3-0 and appear to be a bit of a pushover once again this season. Pastrnak is coming off what was far and away a career year with 61 goals and 113 points in 82 games played. He is firmly in his prime and continuing that strong form early on this season. This is a certified superstar who gets a soft matchup in a game his team should win comfortably. Look for Pastrnak to continue his early torrid pace.
