I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. We’re officially into Christmas weekend, and that means a jam-packed sports schedule. While the focus shifts to the NFL and NBA for many fans come Sunday and Monday, today is all about the 14-game NHL slate. That means games all throughout the day, but it also means that it’s quite a bit of games to break down. However, our experts have done that for you and found their best spots for NHL prop bet picks.

Along with our best NHL player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Mitch Marner over 1.5 points (+180)

Over 1.5 points (+180) available at time of publishing. Playable to +140.

It isn’t one of the early afternoon games, but the Maple Leafs vs. Blue Jackets matchup is our first target. It’s a great one at that, given that Columbus once again is a poor goaltending team, and Toronto’s star-studded lineup yet again has an explosive offense. The Jackets are the second-worst team in terms of goals allowed per game, while the Leafs are the third-highest scoring team in the NHL. The only struggle when it comes to Toronto is that the options are virtually endless.

Auston Matthews is one of the best goal-scorers of his generation, captain John Tavares is an all-around skater and William Nylander is as polarizing as it gets. However, we’re focused on winger Mitch Marner. He’s behind only Matthews and Nylander on the team in terms of points, but we’ll likely see each of them record multiple points. That’s usually the case when Marner faces the Jackets, as he had 3 points against them just 9 days ago. In fact, he’s had multiple points against Columbus in 4 of his last 5 matchups with them. Whether he finds the back of the net himself or feeds Matthews, expect Marner to rack up multiple points tonight.

Quinn Hughes over 1.5 points (+170)

Over 1.5 points (+170) available at time of publishing. Playable to +130.

The only downside of this play is that we have to wait until the last game of the night. However, trust us when we say that it’s a fantastic spot to target, and it should be well worth the wait. So much focus is given to the brotherly duo of Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes paired together on the New Jersey Devils, but way out west up in Canada is the third brother – Quinn Hughes. The Canuck defenseman has been incredible for Vancouver, but the market he plays in allows him to fly under the radar. He may be a d-man, but he is one of the primary reasons as to why the ‘Nucks are the absolute highest-scoring team in the NHL.

That dynamic offense now gets to face the absolute worst goaltending team – the San Jose Sharks. They’re arguably the worst team overall, and the game is in Vancouver. We’d actually prefer it was on the road for better value, but we’ll still target Hughes with our NHL prop bet picks. He has 42 points through 34 games, and with three skaters on the team with over 40 points, he has guys to link up with to ensure he records multiple points tonight. He already has 8 points in 3 games against San Jose this year, so we’re backing him to have another multi-point game tonight.
