Thursday brings us another exciting night of NBA action, including a TNT double-header featuring a rematch of last week’s Cavaliers vs Thunder game, followed by a Western Conference clash between the Rockets and Kings. Find our predictions for both of those games on the NBA picks page, I’ve selected a few of my favorite NBA player prop bets for Thursday, January 16. Let’s dive into them!
Domantas Sabonis (Kings) Over 6.5 Assists (+100)
The play of Domantas Sabonis has been one of the driving forces for this current run of 7 wins in 8 games by the Sacramento Kings. New interim head coach Doug Christie has brought back some of the ideas that the Kings turned away from at the start of the season, in hopes of improving their defense. Instead, Sacramento is now flying all over the court, just like they did in the 2022-23 season when they finished with the 3rd best record in West. Sabonis’s role on offense has expanded, he is averaging 7.3 assists per game over his last 8 outings and we just saw him clear this line in 3 of his last 4 games against very solid opposition. Against Houston he is averaging 7.6 assists per game in the last 8 meetings, playing them on a 2nd night of a back-to-back should allow Sabonis to get to 7 assists here.
Myles Turner (Pacers) Over 1.5 Made Threes (-113)
This is a revenge spot for Myles Turner who let us down on my +1100 odds SGP the other night in the Pacers vs Cavs game. Turner failed to knock down 2 threes in that game, going just 1-for-4, but I still have a lot of faith in him as he is shooting 35% from downtown over his last 7 games. During this stretch he has cleared the 2 made threes line 5 times, I really like his chances against a Pistons team that’s near the bottom of the NBA when it comes to defending the three-point line. Detroit’s opponents are shooting almost 38% for the season from deep against them, Jalen Duren will have a hard time keeping up with Turner here as he likes to stretch out the defense and step outside quite often. In his last game at Detroit he went 3-for-8 from distance, en route to a 20 point game. Let’s hope for a similar effort in tonight’s clash.
Darius Garland (Cavaliers) Over 26.5 Points + Assists (-122)
Garland has really stepped up his production at the start of 2025, as Donovan Mitchell struggles to get going. He’s on a streak of 3 consecutive 20+ point games, including a 40-point explosion against the Toronto Raptors last Thursday. Over his last 10 games Garland’s efficiency is at almost 52% from the field and a respectable 37.5% from three-point land, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for him to reach his season average in points here. On the assists side of things, he’s been able to distribute consistently over the past 4 games record at least 7 assists in every single one of them, including the one against the Thunder last week. With the OKC defense mostly focused on containing Mitchell, Garland will be the main threat on offense for the Cavs here. He’s at 20 points and 9.6 assists per game in the last 5 meetings, getting to 27 points + assists shouldn’t be too difficult here.
