Clevta’s San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks best bet: Seahawks +3.5 (-110)
It’s hard projecting this game considering we are still not sure if Brock Purdy is going to play on Thursday. But with that question to add to the fact that Deebo Samuel definitely is out and it’s going to be difficult to back the Niners on a short week on the road. Given recent form, it’s tough backing Seattle but getting over a FG is attractive with an offense that can score to at least get a backdoor cover. Assuming Purdy does start, it’s a difficult spot doing so on a short week in a hostile environment of Seattle. I think the Niners are going to try and run the ball with Christian McCaffery on this Seattle defense that has been gashed on the ground of late. But that conservative gameplan makes it tougher to cover over 3 points.

The Niners are also dealing with some injuries on the defensive front with multiple DTs out or questionable including Kerry Hyder, Keving Givens Arik Armstead, Javon Kinlaw and Hassan Ridgeway. In addition, the Niners are without multiple depth pieces in the secondary with Ambry Thomas, Sam Womack and Dontae Johnson all out. Geno Smith has not been as efficient of late but with the Seahawks WR corps can move the ball well enough against this banged up secondary to have a shot to win late.
For the recent negative performance from the Seahawks, they haven’t been blown out at all. In their six losses, only one came by more than seven points. Even with some of the matchups advantages by the Niners, Geno Smith should be able to at least have the backdoor available.

Given how excellent the 49ers defense is and the questions they have at quarterback, it’s tough to side with anything but the under here. San Francisco’s defense has been outstanding all season long, ranking 2nd in team defense DVOA and getting to the opposing quarterback at one of the best rates in the league. And as previously mentioned, Geno Smith’s efficiency has plummeted in recent weeks, likely as a result of a much weaker Seattle running game. With Purdy’s status up in the air, plus the loss of Geno Smith as well, a low-scoring affair should be expected here.
