MLB pick today: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 over Detroit Tigers (-105), 3:10 pm ET

Taking the mound for the Rays to open the season is young lefty Shane McClanahan, who finished the 2022 season as one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. McClanahan finished last season with a 12-8 record and 2.54 ERA, absolutely lighting up the radar gun with high velocity that reaches triple digits along with 3 off-speed pitches to keep hitters off balance. He is backed up by one of the best bullpens that should be able to limit this Tigers lineup for the entirety of the game.

On the other side, Eduardo Rodriguez gets the ball for Detroit after posting a 4.05 ERA last season across 17 starts, dealing with injury for parts of the season. Opening day means both teams are healthy and rested, but Tampa Bay is clearly the superior team both on the mound and at the plate, therefore trusting the Rays to take care of the Tigers at home will be our play.

MLB pick today: Texas Rangers ML over Philadelphia Phillies (-135), 4:05 pm ET

Jacob deGrom will get the Opening Day nod for the Rangers as he goes from the orange and blue to the red and blue. Over those 9 years, DeGrom has made 20 starts against Philadelphia and is 9-1 with a 2.18 ERA.

Meanwhile, Phillies starter Aaron Nola has pitched against 27 different MLB teams over the course of his 8-year career, but the Rangers have not been one of them. Nola had a fantastic 2022 season, posting career-bests in xERA (2.74) and walk rate (3.6%), but DeGrom is arguably the greatest pitcher in the game when healthy. Typically, pitchers have the early-season advantage as hitters are still getting their timing down and seeing DeGrom on opening day is any hitter’s worst nightmare. For that reason, backing the Rangers to open their season with a win will be our play.

NHL pick today: Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 over Detroit Red Wings (+115), 7:37 pm ET

The Red Wings come into this game with just 4 wins in their last 16 games. Carolina, on the other hand, has lost 3 of its last 4, but to some very good teams.

The Hurricanes have won 9 of their last 12 games on the road and have also had success in Detroit, winning 6 of their last 9 there. For that reason, a comfortable Hurricanes win will be our play.

NHL pick today: St. Louis Blues vs Chicago Blackhawks – Over 6 goals (-125), 8:37 pm ET

The Blues and Blackhawks have met 3 times this season in games that have averaged 6.33 goals. The over has been very prominent in the Blues’ season thanks mostly to their weak goal prevention. The total has also gone over in 8 of their last 10 games, and in their last 6 straight on the road. With that, the over is 44-24-6 on their season including 24-9-4 on the road.

Because St. Louis ranks 28th in the NHL in goals allowed per game, and the Blackhawks rank 25th, backing the over tonight will be our best play.
