College Football pick today: Tulane Green Wave -3.5 over SMU Mustangs (-110), 7:30 pm ET

All college football eyes will be on Tulane and SMU tonight, as they are the only college football game on the docket. SMU comes into the game hot, winners of 3 straight. Their two conference losses came to the other top teams, Cincinnati and UCF. Tulane comes into the game at 8-2 overall, and they suffered a setback last week against UCF. It was their only conference loss to date, though, and they still control their own destiny if they can hold serve against SMU and beat Cincinnati in what will amount to a play-in game for the conference championship.

Tulane should be able to move the ball with relative ease against a generous SMU defense, and they are likely to get just enough out of their defense to secure the win. The SMU defense ranks well outside of the top 100 in terms of rushing yards allowed, and Tulane loves to hand the ball to Tyjae Spears. Playing at home also helps, and so does the extra motivation of knowing that a New Year’s Six bowl game is not yet out of their reach. For that reason, backing the Green Wave will be the play.

NHL pick today: Winnipeg Jets 3-Way over Anaheim Ducks (-140), 8:00 pm ET

There are plenty of incredible matchups with a huge 13-game slate tonight, but this may not be one many fans have circled on the calendar. That’s primarily because not much is expected from the Ducks this season, but the Jets have a real chance to make vast improvements this season. They have already done so with 9 wins so far this year and trailing only the Dallas Stars at the top of the Central Division.

The Jets have won each of their last 4 games on home ice by holding the opposition to 2 goals or fewer on every occasion. Better yet, 2 of those were shutouts and another was a 5-1 victory over Dallas Stars. That doesn’t bode well for a Ducks club that scores the 7th-fewest goals per game. If that wasn’t bad enough, Anaheim also allows the absolute most goals per game on the road. With that type of discrepancy, backing the Jets to win will be the play.

NFL pick today: Green Bay Packers -3.5 over Tennessee Titans (-110), 8:15 pm ET

This game should be over a field goal given how banged up the Titans are. While Ryan Tannehill did play last Sunday, the rest of the Tennessee offense is pretty much entirely dependent on Derrick Henry to make plays. Given how limited the Titans are at wide receiver, Henry has had to be outstanding in most of Tennessee’s wins this season.

The Packers’ defense however, is getting healthier and also is due for some turnover regression, as it ranks near the bottom of the league in forced fumbles, fumble recoveries and is squarely middle of the pack in interceptions. With a suddenly confident Packers receiving corps and Aaron Rodgers back in form, Green Bay should capitalize on a beleaguered Titans team on a short week at home.

NBA pick today: Portland Trail Blazers -2 over Brooklyn Nets (-115), 10:00 pm ET

Portland has been a pleasant surprise so far in 2022-23. The Trail Blazers are leading the Northwest Division thanks to a trio of 20+ ppg scorers in Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant. Portland might actually have some staying power in a season that looked like it might be heading to the lottery next summer.

It is amazing how much respect the Nets are still getting in the market. The Blazers are just small favorites at home, indicating the only difference between the teams right now is the location of the game. That looks to be far from the case, and if you see Lillard and Kevin Durant as cancelling each other out, there are a lot of advantages for Portland. For that reason, backing the Trail Blazers looks to be the best play.
