The Next Step The NFL Must Make With Kareem Hunt

The NFL has found themselves in a bit of rough water with running back Kareem Hunt and it seems to be something that could have been 100 percent avoidable. Kareem Hunt got into an altercation in a Cleveland hotel back in February with a woman. Police were called to the scene but no arrests were made and after being in the media for a few days it went away. Fast forward to Friday when TMZ released the video of Hunt pushing the woman and then kicking her while she was on the ground.

The NFL decided put to Hunt and on the Commissioner Exempt List and about a half hour later the Chiefs decided to release him. The NFL released the following statement:

The NFL has placed Kareem Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs on the Commissioner Exempt list, and as a result, he may not practice, play or attend games. The NFL’s investigation, which began immediately following the incident in February, will include a review of the new information that was made public today.

The NFL has taken the first necessary step and with the Chiefs should be praised for releasing him now but if this video was there the whole time, why was he not let go in February.

No Excuses NFL

When this incident happened in February the NFL and the Chiefs knew the incident took place in a hotel so how were they not able to attain footage of the incident? TMZ was able to obtain the video, so then there is no excuse of for the NFL not getting their hands on it. If it turns out the NFL or the Chiefs did see the video before Friday, there need to be some firings because the fact they tried to sweep it under the rug is unacceptable. If they didn’t see the video there still needs to be some tough questions asked to the people in the league office and the Chiefs who were in charge of reviewing this matter.

As for Kareem Hunt what should happen to him is pretty simple, he needs to be suspended without pay for now, and then hopefully the rest of the NFL decides to blackball him. A man is never to put his hands on a woman and the fact that he is on the exempt list, for now, is frankly embarrassing.

The Chiefs are Super Bowl contenders and without Hunt that takes a hit but they made the right move in deciding to release him putting a woman’s welfare before the results of their team.

The Next Steps

There have been people on social media talking about how the video doesn’t look as bad as Ray Rice, so he should get off a bit easier. He hit a woman and those people are just making excuses for his terrible actions.

I also believe that the city of Cleveland needs to relook at this and charge him with a crime. There needs to be some sort of explanation from them about how they watched this video and decided no charges should be brought. Is it because he is an NFL star?
