The 2023 NFL season has come to an end. That’s the bad news – and, yes, it’s very bad. But the good news is that it ended in epic fashion and the even better news is that it’s never too early to look ahead toward the 2024 campaign. After all, football never stops!
Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 on Sunday night in Las Vegas, Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans is next up on the menu. The odds are already out, so let’s break down what could transpire on the NFL gridiron next season.
Super Bowl 59 opening odds
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.
As the odds indicate, a Super Bowl rematch between San Francisco and Kansas City is expected. They are the first and second favorites, respectively, to lift the Lombardi Trophy next February. There is a pretty big gap behind the top 2, after which you can find the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals.
- San Francisco 49ers +550
- Kansas City Chiefs +650
- Baltimore Ravens +900
- Buffalo Bills +950
- Detroit Lions +1200
- Cincinnati Bengals +1200
- Miami Dolphins +1700
- Philadelphia Eagles +2000
- Green Bay Packers +2000
- Dallas Cowboys +2000
- Houston Texans +2200
- New York Jets +2500
- Los Angeles Chargers +2500
Super Bowl 59 best bet: Kansas City Chiefs (+650)
It’s not the most earth-shattering pick by any means, but I would take the Chiefs at anything in the area of +600 or better. As the Pickswise team suggested in advance of Super Bowl 58, it is simply unwise to bet against Patrick Mahomes – especially in the playoffs. In the Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid era, this 2023 version of the Chiefs was probably the worst of their 4 Super Bowl appearances. It’s true that the defense was stellar, but Mahomes had fewer weapons at his disposal than in years past. Nonetheless, the future Hall of Famer was as good as ever on Sunday and led this franchise to yet another Vince Lombardi Trophy. If Kansas City was going to stop winning any time in the near future, it probably would have been this season.
Super Bowl 59 best longshot pick: Detroit Lions (+1200)
If you wanted a longer shot, I would look at a more wide-open NFC. Honestly, the Dallas Cowboys are intriguing at lofty +2000 odds, but I just can’t pull the trigger on them given their playoff futility. Instead, I would rather roll with the Detroit Lions at +1200. They probably should have been in the Super Bowl this season and they are only going to get better with another year of experience under their belts.
