Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are in the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season, and they are matched up with a familiar foe in the Philadelphia Eagles. Mahomes just faced off against Nick Sirriani and the Eagles in Super Bowl 57 back on February 12, 2023, when Kansas City took down Philadelphia 38-35 in an instant classic. Both teams look a little bit different now, particularly the Chiefs with their recent additions at wide receiver. Can the Eagles exact a bit of revenge this time around, or will Mahomes once again prove to be inevitable and earn Super Bowl MVP honors for the 4th time in his career?

Best Super Bowl MVP bet: Patrick Mahomes (+105)
Given how thin the possibility for an edge is in the side, total and prop market for the Super Bowl, this is actually my favorite bet on the board heading into Super Bowl 59. Although Kansas City to win the Super Bowl at -120 is certainly tempting, there is even better value on Mahomes to be MVP at plus-money. After all, I just can’t see a path where the all-world quarterback isn’t the MVP if his team wins. The 29-year-old was MVP in each of Kansas City’s first 3 Super Bowl victories, and for good reason, as Mahomes was absolutely stellar in that game. Given the makeup of this particular Chiefs team and how they underwhelmed for most of the season, there is no reason to think anything will be different in 2024. While Travis Travis Kelce certainly has a narrative case for the award if he’s to have a massive performance in this game, I just can’t see the award going to a non-quarterback when Mahomes is involved. With that in mind, it’s hard to ignore getting Mahomes at plus-money in this market.

Best Super Bowl MVP longshot bet: Jalen Carter (+7500)
As for a longshot play, I would think about taking Jalen Carter at 75-1 odds. For one thing, Jalen Hurts is not necessarily a lock to win MVP if the Eagles prevail. After all, it’s not like Philadelphia doesn’t have a tremendous offense with weapons all over the field, including a Hall of Fame level talent in Saquon Barkley in the backfield. Barkley is the obvious choice for Super Bowl MVP if the Eagles were to win this game, and for good reason. However, there is a small path for Jalen Carter to wreck the game, especially given the Chiefs’ offensive line struggles up front. If Carter is able to find his way into the backfield and either sack Mahomes on multiple occasions, or force a couple of crucial turnovers, there’s a world where the Eagles win a game that’s a bit lower scoring compared to oddsmakers expectations. In the event that Philadelphia doesn’t get much from its passing offense and Barkley has a solid (but not spectacular) game, Carter could be in line to scoop up the rare Super Bowl MVP award for a defensive player.
