Manchester United or tie double chance over Newcastle (-125), 3:00 pm ET, Saturday

Newcastle were dealt a crushing blow when a last-minute PSG penalty left their hopes of qualifying for the knockout rounds of the Champions League in jeopardy on Wednesday night. The decision may have been a harsh one, and the fact it came in the 8th minute of stoppage time at the Parc des Princes doesn’t make it any easier for the Magpies to take, but Newcastle were second-best in that contest. Eddie Howe’s men lost the shot count 21-4, the corner count 6-2 and managed only 27 percent of possession. If anything, Newcastle were the side that were fortunate to leave Paris with a point.

Manchester United also suffered European disappointment in midweek, tying 3-3 with Galatasaray, but the Red Devils have more scope to freshen up their team on Saturday. Newcastle are without a long list of players this weekend and they could struggle to absorb those absentees when United visit St. James’s Park.

Bournemouth ML over Aston Villa (+240), 9:00 am ET, Sunday

Aston Villa are being billed as top-four contenders after a good run of form, but it would be unwise to get sucked into the hype. Tottenham could have easily been 3 or 4 goals up in the first half against Villa last weekend, and while Unai Emery’s men improved drastically in the second half, it’s worth remembering that Spurs had 3 goals disallowed in that contest.

Villa have faced Wolves, West Ham, Luton, Forest, Fulham and Spurs in their last 6 Premier League matches and it’s a kind run of fixtures, above anything else, that has seen Emery’s men climb the EPL standings.

Bournemouth have been excellent in back-to-back wins over Newcastle and Sheffield United and they look great odds on the south coast this weekend.

Brighton or tie double chance over Chelsea (+110), 9:00 am ET, Sunday

Chelsea have been a difficult team to weigh up this season, but the smoke seems to have cleared. The Blues appear a team that are capable of some big performances but are hugely inefficient in both boxes. Chelsea have conceded 13 goals in their last 5 Premier League games, 39-year-old center-back Thiago Silva is way past his best, fellow defenders Benoit Badiashile and Marc Cucurella aren’t up to the required standard, and to make things worse, first-choice right-back Reece James is suspended for the visit of Brighton.

The Seagulls picked up a confidence-boosting win at Nottingham Forest last weekend, and there are no worries about a team that has scored 28 top-flight goals this season, exposing a weak Chelsea defense.
