The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics are underway and excitement continues to build around the chance to see Shaun White, the greatest of all time, drop into the Olympic halfpipe competition for likely the last time.
White announced himself to the world during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where he claimed his first gold medal aged just 19. Sixteen years later, White enters his 5th games, chasing his 4th gold medal, as the oldest in the field.
After leaving the 2014 Sochi Olympics empty-handed, White roared back to the top four years later in Pyeongchang with a breathtaking final run, in which he posted an Olympic halfpipe record score of 97.75 to snatch gold from the hands of Japanese teenager Ayumu Hirano.
A legendary career already etched, the greatest of all time, but can Shaun White roll back the clock and win again in what’s likely to be his last ever Winter Olympics? Check out our experts’ thoughts below, including the best odds, and how to watch Shaun White’s run(s).

Shaun White Chances – Men’s Halfpipe Olympic Prediction and Best Bet
Though Shaun White is unquestionably the biggest name in the field, his last win was that famous run to snatch gold in Pyeongchang. Following victory in Korea, he took three years off from all halfpipe competitions and has competed just four times since, picking up a solitary podium in Laax, last month. While you run the risk of taking on the best to ever do it, Snowboarding is a young man’s sport, and without an ideal prep, it’s worth taking on Shaun White in what’s likely his last Olympics, even at his +550 odds.
Scotty James only managed an 11th-placed finish in the Laax event last month but showed he can still mix it with the best with a victory in the X Games two weeks ago in Aspen. James’ run was enough to put the pressure on Ayumu Hirano who for the third time attempted to land a triple cork in competition and for the third time fell on his next hit.
Ayumu Hirano is the man to beat, and odds of +250 looks a shade of value. Similar to Shaun White, Hirano took the best part of three years off from competition after a second Olympic silver in 2018 but has roared back to the very top in taking style this year, even without landing a clean run following a triple cork. Ruka Hirano and Yuto Totsuka have landed the elusive move in practice, but nobody aside from Hirano has done so in competition. If he gets it right on the biggest stage he should be very tough to beat, and even without a run containing it, he has enough firepower to win his maiden Olympic gold.
Best Bet: Ayumu Hirano to win Gold at +250 with FanDuel Sportsbook
