MLB pick today: Minnesota Twins -1.5 over Kansas City Royals (+100), 4:10 pm ET
Minnesota opened their season with a win and has a great chance to start a winning streak with Sonny Gray on the mound this afternoon. Gray was excellent for the Twins last season, with a 3.03 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP in 24 starts. One team that Gray always seemed to find success against was the Royals, as the veteran finished with just 1 earned run, 8 hits and 22 strikeouts allowed in 19 innings against Kansas City.
He will face a Royals lineup that managed just 2 hits on Opening Day as their young lineup demonstrated their inexperience. Today’s start will be Gray’s 4th in Kansas City in his career, and so far he is 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA. Minnesota has a clear pitching advantage, and their offense was obviously the superior squad on Opening Day. For that reason backing the Twins on the run line will be the play.

College basketball pick today: Florida Atlantic Owls vs San Diego State Aztecs Under 131.5 (-110), 6:09 pm ET
The under is the recommended bet in this game, as we should see a game played to a lower possession count than projected. San Diego State is great at preventing their opponents from playing in transition. Per Hoop-Math, just 4 teams allowed a lower shot attempt rate in the country than the Aztecs this season, and all 4 of their games stayed under the total.
Finally, from a matchup perspective there likely won’t be many easy baskets at the rim in this game. San Diego State’s Nathan Mensah ranks 13th nationally in block rate according to KenPom and should be a perfect defender to handle Vlad Goldin. On the other end, FAU ranks in the 97th percentile in rim defense according to Synergy. This places a greater emphasis on jump-shooting for both teams, therefore backing the under will be our play.

NHL pick today: Florida Panthers -1.5 over Columbus Blue Jackets (+105), 7:00 pm ET
Both Florida and Columbus were in action on Thursday, but as expected, only the Panthers won their matchup. They handled the Montreal Canadiens with ease in a 5-2 victory.
Columbus allows the 2nd-most goals per game, so expect a big night from everyone on Florida. This game also means significantly more to the Panthers, as they are still trying to catch the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2nd wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. With the Pens facing the NHL-best Boston Bruins, this is the perfect opportunity to gain a game.

A lack of goals is hampering the Colorado Rapids at the start of the season and Los Angeles FC can take advantage to record a road win tonight.
