As mentioned, the Rangers have finally encountered a hiccup in the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs. After sweeping the Washington Capitals in the first round, they got out to a commanding 3-0 lead over the ‘Canes. Although they haven’t closed things out yet, we have full confidence that they will, and specifically, do so tonight. They’ve been the better team in all 5 games thus far outside the 3rd period of Game 4, and they have the superior goaltender.
Igor Shesterkin has been standing on his head since the all-star break, and Carolina’s Frederik Andersen had allowed 3+ goals in each start in this series prior to Monday night. The ‘Canes have also struggled mightily on the power play, as they still have yet to score a goal with the man advantage this entire series. Even when they’re out-shooting New York, they simply aren’t getting the job done. As much as we love Shesterkin and as much as the Hurricanes have been anything but a storm on the power play, we’re still going to take the over when it comes to the total.
