Week 7 of the NFL season rolls on with a matchup in Miami as the Steelers take on the Dolphins. It’s been a tough season for the Steelers, but it hasn’t been any easier for the Dolphins — who have been without Tua Tagovailoa for the last few weeks. But fortunately for the Dolphins, the lefty will return to the field for Sunday Night Football.
Our NFL expert has picks, predictions and best bets for this matchup, so let’s break it all down.

NFL Week 7 Pittsburgh Steelers vs Miami Dolphins prediction
It’s the return for Tagovailoa, which missed several weeks after suffering a gruesome concussion on Thursday Night Football a few weeks ago. This time around, doctors agree that Tagovailoa is completely cleared and ready to make his return to the team. What can we expect from Tua in his first game back since suffering the hit that he claims not to remember?

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Miami Dolphins expert picks
We’ve got 2 standout NFL picks for this week’s clash between the Steelers and Dolphins.
Steelers vs Dolphins point spread pick: Dolphins -7.5 (-110)
When the season opened, this game had some outstanding narratives. Not only did you have one of the most successful coaches in Mike Tomlin squaring off against one of the fastest-rising coaching stars in Mike McDaniel, but you also have a developing Tagovailoa going up against rookie sensation Kenny Pickett. Unfortunately, both quarterbacks are recovering from concussions, Tomlin is under pressure and both teams are struggling within their respective divisions. The Dolphins are heavy favorites on the money line, but a 7-point spread against a Tomlin-led team can be tough to cover. Amazingly, this is the first time these teams have faced each other since 2019, the first time the Dolphins have been favored since 2004 and in the 8 games over that span, the Dolphins are 5-3 against the spread. These teams are very different than they once were, but, whether both quarterbacks are healthy enough to play or not, the edge tilts towards Miami.
Tua is expected to play, but even if he doesn’t, the Dolphins still have Teddy Bridgewater who fits McDaniel’s offensive scheme perfectly. It’s all about using the run to set up the pass and then short, quick timing routes to get the ball into the hands of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle against a defense that has far too many injuries in their secondary. If Pickett is under center, the Steelers may have a fighting chance to keep this game close. Their struggling offensive line needs to win the battle at the line of scrimmage if they hope to get Najee Harris going and have the run set up the pass as well. Pickett has solid receivers, but still needs more time in the pocket. If it’s Mitch Trubisky, it may not even matter. His luck ran out with last week’s win against Tampa Bay.

Steelers vs Dolphins Over/Under totals pick: Over 46 (-110)
The over/under for this game is going to be tough to predict as many factors are still up in the air for both teams. If it’s Tagovailoa versus Kenny Pickett, we may see the up-and-coming QBs slinging the rock back and forth in the second half. Bridgewater versus Pickett could yield similar results, but if it’s either Tua or Bridgewater versus Trubisky, the over seems much less likely as the’ Steelers offense could get stuck in the mud. Last week’s win over Tampa Bay was about as ugly as it comes and the game total fell way under its expected number.
There are also a number of injury concerns in the Pittsburgh secondary. Four of their defensive backs missed last week’s game and while they managed to contain Tom Brady, doing it on the road in Miami is a taller order. It sounds as if everyone is expected back this week, but healthy or not, they’ve still allowed an average of 277.8 passing yards with 12 touchdowns through the air while Miami’s pass defense hasn’t fared much better. This is one to bet much closer to the game if you can so you can see practice reports and determine who is in and who is out. All things being equal, if everyone plays on both sides of the ball, this one could sneak past the over in the waning minutes of the game.
