Philadelphia Eagles QB Drama: Carson Wentz or Nick Foles

One of the biggest storylines to watch heading into this offseason is the Philadelphia Eagles and what they are going to do about the quarterback position. They have control over both Carson Wentz and Nick Foles on the roster but it’s hard to imagine that the team will keep Nick Foles on the roster if he isn’t the starting quarterback because of the cap hit he will have. So what is the right way that the Eagles should approach this? Should they keep both quarterbacks? Or move on from Foles or Wentz? Let’s breakdown both players and which direction the Eagles should take. The Eagles have already said that Wentz is the starting quarterback next year but is that the right decision?

Carson Wentz

Everyone knows what Carson Wentz is and how good of a player he is when he is healthy. Wentz wasn’t fully healthy the entire season but he still had good stats and led the team to victories. On the season he threw for 3,074 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Last year before he got hurt he was playing like the MVP and he probably could have led the Eagles to the Super Bowl, but he didn’t stay healthy and that is a big talking point surrounding Wentz.

What if the Eagles decide to keep Wentz and he gets injured late in the season again. The back injury could be something that keeps popping up and if they decide to let Foles go, and then they wouldn’t have someone who could lead them to victories in the playoffs. Wentz is also only 26 years old and should be just entering his prime.

Nick Foles

For Nick Foles he can be a lot more inconsistent but there is one thing for sure about him, he wins games. If it wasn’t for an Alshon Jeffery drop there is a chance it might be the Rams and the Eagles facing off this weekend and the Saints would be watching from home.

This season Foles threw for 1,413 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions and like last year he led the team to victories. The downside for Foles is that he probably isn’t as good of a quarterback as Wentz, at least stats wise. He makes more bad decisions and does throw interceptions but when the game is on the line he usually makes the right decisions. He also is durable and as of late hasn’t had to deal with many injuries, although he hasn’t had to go through a full season either.

So who should start?

I really believe the guy the Eagles should start is Nick Foles because Wentz seems to get injured every year. A quarterback needs to be healthy for the playoffs and that is something that Wentz hasn’t been.

The Eagles also could trade away Wentz and get a ton of draft capital back. There is no doubt a team like the Jaguars or someone who is close but only missing a good quarterback would give up a ton to have a shot at Wentz.
