The NHL’s Eastern Conference Final begins on Wednesday with the Florida Panthers visiting the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. In a battle between a couple of certified juggernauts, only one of them will have a chance to win the Stanley Cup. This is familiar territory for the Panthers, who won the East just a year ago before falling 2 wins short of hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup. The story is a bit different for the Rangers as they are vying for their first Cup Finals appearance in nearly 10 years. This series is appointment television so do your best to clear your schedule. Florida Panthers ML over New York Rangers (-110)
While there is a remarkably slim margin of error in this series, the Rangers’ recent form gives more appeal than the Panthers in Game 1. After taking a 3-0 series lead against the Hurricanes, the Rangers lost 2 straight, were booed on home ice, and if not for an outlier of a 3rd-period performance by Chris Kreider, would have been playing for their season in a Game 7. Obviously, the Rangers are very good. But they showed a bit of complacency that this Panthers team has not showed. After taking care of business for the majority of the last postseason, the Panthers have just rinsed and repeated. They are more experienced, more poised and more battle-tested. The Panthers are too difficult of a fade.

Over 5.5 (-106)
The over has been trending for both teams lately. The over has hit in 6 of the Panthers’ last 9 games, as well as in 5 of the Rangers’ last 7 games. The numbers are much more jarring head-to-head. The total has gone over in 18 of the last 19 played head-to-head between these teams and in 9 of the last 10 played head-to-head at Madison Square Garden.
When the Panthers and Rangers meet, totals climb. This one appears to hinge a little bit more on the Rangers. The Rangers have been more volatile in terms of goals allowed. But they also can score with the best of them. The Rangers’ recent volatility coupled with the Panthers’ ability to transition to any game style bodes well for yet another over.
Aleksander Barkov over 0.5 goals (+270)
For all intents and purposes, the team goes as Aleksander Barkov goes. Barkov is the heartbeat of the Panthers as he leads on both sides of the puck. His defensive prowess as a forward aside, this is a guy that is heavily leaned on to produce. Barkov has 13 points in 11 games in this postseason. That follows up his 4th consecutive season averaging over a point per game which was also the 5th time he eclipsed that mark in his last 6 seasons.
Barkov is currently centering the top line between Stanley Cup Winner and sniper Vladimir Tarasenko and Sam Reinhart, and is on the top power play with Reinhart, Carter Verhaeghe, Brandon Montour and Matthew Tkachuk. The recent form and opportunity is there for Barkov to continue producing. A Barkov goal gives this Panthers vs Rangers Same Game Parlay great value.
