Sunday Night at 8:00 pm ET is arguably the marquee matchup of Wild Card Weekend: Los Angeles Rams (+3) vs Detroit Lions. There are so many storylines to this game, but let’s mention the obvious ones that everyone is talking about. Matthew Stafford returns to Detroit to spoil their first home playoff game in 30 years and L.A. head coach Sean McVay squares off against former starting QB Jared Goff. Both teams are forever connected for the massive trade conducted 3 years ago that jump-started the Lions’ resurgence and gave the Rams their first Super Bowl in the Los Angeles market.
Many eyes will be on the injury status of rookie TE Sam LaPorta, as many reports are starting that he is “optimistic” he will play. The line opened at Rams +3.5 and has since moved to Rams +3 as early money rolled in on the Rams.
Amon-Ra St.Brown, WR, DET Over 87.5 receiving yards (-114)
Line available on FanDuel Sportsbook at the time of publishing.
The Lions will be without Kalif Raymond at wide receiver and Sam LaPorta looks to be a game-time decision. The Rams’ defense has been stout against the run of late but genuinely lacks a consistent pass rush. Jared Goff with a clean pocket is as deadly as any QB in the league and he should have plenty of opportunities this Sunday night against a young Rams secondary. Derion Kendrick is a sophomore perimeter CB that loves to gamble and has had issues with PI calls this year, Cobie Durant is the 96th ranked CB out of 128 according to PFF and Akhello Witherspoon has had moments this season but has been gashed of late. That includes allowing 116 yards to Chris Olave, 142 yards to Jalin Hyatt, 68 to DK Metcalf, 70 to George Pickens…. You get the idea. If I’m looking for the mismatch on paper, it’s ASB vs this Rams secondary and that matchup gets amplified with LaPorta potentially not playing or not playing at 100%. 1u.
Longshot TD Scorer: Josh Reynolds, WR, DET (+490)
Reynolds should see a snap boost with Kalif Raymond out on Sunday. He has had a nose for the endzone this season with 5 TDs in the WR3 role. Jameson Williams’ surge over the last 4 games left him with a TD drought and hasn’t scored since Week 13, but playing his old team and a few extra targets has me loving this at nearly 5-1.
