This is the most anticipated debut of a quarterback in a new uniform since Peyton Manning went to the Denver Broncos. After an offseason of the 24/7 hype cycle around Aaron Rodgers landing with the Jets, capped off with a starring role on HBO’s Hard Knocks, we are finally ready for Jets to show us what they are made of. They open up at home on Monday Night Football as +2.5 point underdogs against division rival Buffalo Bills. Regardless of the outcome, I can promise you we will receive overreactions Tuesday morning.

Greg Zuerlein over 1.5 extra points made (-150)
Line available on DraftKings sportsbook at the time of publishing.
I rarely give out plays this heavily juiced, but I am very confident in the Jets scoring two touchdowns on Monday night. The Green Bay Packers, under Nathaniel Hackett from 2019-2021, ranked 15th, 1st, and 10th in scoring in the NFL. Rodgers has not only Garrett Wilson to throw to, but he also brought along some familiar faces in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. Tyler Conklin is serviceable when he can hold onto the football and we all know about the Dalvin Cook/ Breece Hall duo. The biggest question mark is across the offensive line, but with Von Miller sidelined, I’m less than concerned about Buffalo’s pass rush. Two TDs seems low considering the Jets total points are pegged at 23.5. 2U

James Cook over 19.5 receiving yards (-114)
Line available on FanDuel sportsbook at the time of publishing.
Cook is stepping into the RB1 role with Devin Singletary departing to the Houston Texans this offseason. The Georgia product and brother of Jets RB Dalvin Cook (how can you NOT mention it?) was the teams 3rd down RB last season. This year, he is flanked by Damien Harris and Latavius Murray. Murray is bruising goal line back and Harris has cracked 150 receiving yards in a season for his career. Cook will be available on early downs, as well as, the 3rd down role. He may see his goal line touches sniped, but that’s not our concern when betting receiving yards.
Last season, he averaged 11.3 receiving yards per game on a 6% target share. With Stefon Diggs being blanketed by Sauce Gardner, I have Cook down for 4-5 targets. His 8.6 yards per reception is above the season average 7.3 ypr for running backs in 2022. Offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey praised his progress this offseason on improving in pass protection, which is what he’ll need to do if he wants to be a 3-down back for the Bills. 1U
