Thursday Night Football in Week 8 was lucky enough to be filled with storylines building up to the showdown between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams (+3) in Sofi Stadium. Rumors were circulating shortly after Week 7 was concluded that the Vikings and Rams were engaging in trade talks for Matthew Stafford after a summer of attempts had failed. Also making it’s way around the league was that the Rams were shopping Cooper Kupp before the deadline, with the Chiefs eventually going in another direction: Deandre Hopkins.

For Thursday’s game, the Rams season hangs in the balance. With a victory, they will be one game out of first in the NFC West with many starters finally getting healthy. A loss and they may be extremely active at the deadline in a firesale of sorts. For Minnesota, they are coming off their first loss of the season against Detroit and are looking to shake the trend of teams going 0-4 the week after playing the Lions. Let’s look at my favorite player prop of the game.

Matthew Stafford (LAR) over 235.5 passing yards (-113)

Line available on Fanduel Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

Cooper Kupp is back and the Rams season is on the line. That alone should set your antennas off for a play on Matthew Stafford in this one. In the one full game that Kupp played this season, Stafford registered 314 passing yards against the Detroit Lions, which is an encouraging sign heading into Thursday’s contest. We’ve seen a rise in Kyren Williams workload over the last 4 games as the Rams moved towards a more run centric team to hide their thin wide receiver core. However, I expect this to be a higher scoring game — as the high total would indicate — and Stafford ranks 9th in the NFL in EPA per play against zone defense, while the Vikings run zone coverage at the 6th highest rate according to PFF. Stafford’s pass attempt line is at a healthy 33.5 despite averaging 29.5 attempts on the season. With all of that in mind, I expect Stafford to send a message in primetime with Kupp back in the fold as their names both circulated in the trade rumor mill this week. This is 1 unit play for me.
