Another primetime game and another New York team to watch. The Jets’ season hit a new low in Week 8 after losing to the lowly New England Patriots and despite losing 5 straight games, they are 2-point favorites at home to the Houston Texans (currently the #2 seed in the AFC). This is a very suspicious line even considering the Texans will be without Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs. The total sits at 42.5 unsurprisingly when you consider the Jets are still one of the top 3 defenses in the league. CJ Stroud has looked pedestrian at times, but still boasts an 11:4 TD-to-INT ratio. Let’s dive into my best Texans vs Jets player prop bet for TNF, while you can also find out our NFL picks for Thursday Night Football and every game in Week 9!

Aaron Rodgers (NYJ) over 20.5 completions (-120)

Line available on FanDuel Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

Rodgers’ median completions for the season sit at 23.5 so right off the bat this is a digestible line. The Jets benefited greatly from a successful running game last week against the Patriots and never really feared the game would get away from them with Brissett under center. They still lost, but it hampered what Rodgers had to do from a game plan perspective. He’s thrown over 35 passes in 5 of 8 games this season and with CJ Stroud as the opposite QB, the Jets will likely need to move the ball up and down the field. Houston is 11th in opponent rushing first downs per game and 13th in opponent rushing play percentage. Assuming Rodgers gets closer to that 35 attempts mark his 61% completion percentage projects him at 21.35 completions. He’s hit this in 5 of 8 on the year, so let’s take Rodgers to clear this number for my best player prop bet on this game. This is a 1 unit play from me.
