Dallas Stars ML over Edmonton Oilers (-135)
It was a slow start for both the Oilers and Stars on Thursday night, leading to a scoreless first period. However, it took just seconds in the second period for the scoring to start, and both teams had scored at least once just over 6 minutes into that middle session. It ultimately led to Edmonton’s victory, which helped us cash our Game 1 Same Game Parlay.
This time, we’re going the other way, backing the Stars to take Game 2. Of course, remaining on home ice certainly helps with that, as they were the 4th-highest scoring team at home this season. It’s also worth noting that Dallas nearly took Game 1 in the first overtime with a shot that got past Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner before hitting the post. Almost doesn’t count in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but they proved that they could keep pace with Connor McDavid and the Oilers. Even if they don’t have an offensive explosion, they defeated Edmonton 5-0 in their last regular season contest. We certainly don’t expect a blowout of that magnitude tonight, but we do anticipate a Stars victory.
Over 5.5 goals (-130)
We mentioned a slow start for both teams, but the scoring picked up, and in a hurry. While we still hit the under for Game 1, like the first leg of our Oilers vs Stars Same Game Parlay picks, we’re going to flip the script. The firepower on the ice is still there, especially when we see that the expected goals in Game 1 was nearly 8! Similarly, in each of the first 2 games these teams played against one another this year, there were 7 total goals scored. So, oddsmakers lowering the total from 6 to 5.5 for Game 2 is doing us a favor. With guys like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Jason Robertson on the ice, expect the scoring to pick up tonight.
Miro Heiskanen over 0.5 assists (-105)
As we’ve just shared, there is an abundance of superstars on the ice. However, one that we didn’t name above is Miro Heiskanen of Dallas. He’s been the spark that the Stars need when guys like Jason Robertson and captain Jamie Benn aren’t having their best game, and he’s been as consistent as can be. The defenseman dealt with some injuries this season, but still recorded 54 points, 45 of which were assists.
Speaking of injuries, he’ll also be relied upon given the absence of Roope Hintz from the Stars top line. Regardless, he still has guys like Robertson and Benn to dish out to, and youngster Wyatt Johnston has used these Stanley Cup playoffs as his breakout performances. Heiskanen had 3 assists in 3 games against Edmonton this season, so that’s how we’re going to round out our Oilers vs Stars Same Game Parlay picks.
