Denver Nuggets ML over LA Lakers (-110)

Some oddsmakers are going as far as having the Nuggets as slight underdogs in this game, which is puzzling considering they’ve dominated the Lakers for the past several seasons. In total, Nikola Jokic and company have won 14 of the last 16 meetings, including 2 of 3 so far this season. Plus, they are also the healthier team right now with the Lakers missing their superstar LeBron James. Jokic, Jamal Murray and Christian Braun all sat out Monday’s win at Golden State so they can be at 100% for this game, and that alone tells us that they hold this game in high regard

And they should, as the #2 seed is at stake here and with the high-flying Rockets winning 7 in a row, the Nuggets have to continue winning to keep pace with them. LA’s home form will be their calling card here, as they own the 2nd-best home record in the Western Conference and have covered in 7 straight at Crypto.com Arena. However, those numbers go out the window in head-to-head meetings against the Nuggets. Denver is 6-1 ATS in 7 visits to LA, with their 3-time MVP Jokic averaging 27.6 points, 13.9 rebounds and 9.7 assists over the last 15 meetings. I’ll be backing the Nuggets with confidence here.

Aaron Gordon to score 20+ points (+240)

The return of Aaron Gordon from injury is one of the most underrated storylines in the NBA right now. When he plays the Nuggets are a .675-win team which is only 2nd to the Thunder in the West. When Gordon sits that number drops to .586, which is similar to where the Warriors and Timberwolves are at right now. Monday saw Gordon play only his 4th game this month, but it was by far his best one as he lit up Golden State with 38 points, including 4 threes and over 60% efficiency from the field.

Granted, those numbers were a bit inflated due to Jokic and Murray not playing, but you could also argue that they were that more impressive because the entire Warriors gameplan revolved around him and he was still able to fill up the box score. He’s played the Lakers twice this season and is averaging 20.5 points per game in those 2 meetings, on 57% efficiency from the field and also 54% from downtown. As we all know, LA has a very thin front line which has seen exposed by opposing teams ever since they traded away Anthony Davis. The likes of Alex Len, Jarred Vanderbilt and Christian Koloko just aren’t physically equipped to handle a player like Gordon down low. Expect big things from the Nuggets power forward in this game.
