Philadelphia 76ers +9 over Denver Nuggets (-110)

Denver had complete control over Philadelphia in the first meeting at Ball Arena, ultimately destroying the 76ers 144-109. In the 10 days since that game, circumstances have drastically changed. The 76ers have won all 4 games since, beating respectable opponents like Cleveland, Sacramento and the Lakers, plus the Chicago Bulls. Meanwhile, the Nuggets have lost 3 games in a row, with their defense leaking points all over the place. Minnesota, Chicago and New York have combined to average 128 points per game against Denver, which is the highest mark in the NBA over the past 3 games.

The health situation has not improved one bit since that game at Ball Arena, but that doesn’t matter for the Sixers, who are playing their hearts out on a nightly basis. This team has been in must-win games for a while now, as their postseason lives are hanging by a thread thanks to a historically poor start to the season. Despite all that, they’ve turned things around and are 4-1 ATS/SU over their last 5 games and against the Nuggets they’ve covered in 5 of 7 meetings at Wells Fargo Center. Playing in front of a packed arena in Philadelphia, you just know they’ll give their best effort. I’m taking Philadelphia to at least keep this within single digits.

Nikola Jokic 2+ made threes (+105)

The 5-game slump from downtown is a thing of the past for Nikola Jokic, as he is once again back to making threes on a regular basis. In his last 5 games, the Joker is shooting 47.6% from downtown, making a pair of triples 4 times. He’s coming off a 3-for-7 effort in the loss to the Knicks, and with him playing in Philadelphia where he has often been booed just because he’s Joel Embiid’s rival, Jokic should be motivated to well. He had his standard 27 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the first meeting played a little over a week ago, going 2-for-3 from downtown.

With both Andre Drummond and Joel Embiid sitting this one out, the Joker will have a much easier time getting to his numbers. Philadelphia ranks only 20th in opponent three-point percentage this season, allowing 36.4% of shots to go in. For a bet that’s cashed 4 times in the past 5 Nuggets games, we are getting a really solid price here at plus-money odds.

Tyrese Maxey to score 25+ points (-380)

Tyrese Maxey has been on a tear lately and that’s exactly what the 76ers need and are expecting from him in Friday’s game. Although he wasn’t named an All-Star reserve by the coaches and players, Maxey has been playing like one all year long — especially over the past 2 months where his scoring average has gone up from 23.1 in November to 25.8 in December and now to 29.1 in January. This type of production is one of the reasons, if not the only one, that the 76ers are still dreaming of making the playoffs.

Denver didn’t have an answer for Maxey in the first meeting as he scored 28 points, and I am convinced he will outperform that number in front of the home fans in this game. His last 3 games against the Nuggets read 27.7 points and 8 assists per game while shooting 51% from the field and 36% from three on 3 makes per game. I would even recommend backing him to go for 30+ here, but let’s opt for a slightly safer option to increase our chance of landing yet another SGP winner!
