The calendar has officially turned to 2024 which for the NHL means one thing: this year’s edition of the Winter Classic. Monday’s first day of the calendar year features just one game in the NHL between the most recent two expansion franchises. The reigning Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights will visit the host Seattle Kraken at T-Mobile Park which is the home of the MLB’s Seattle Mariners. As always, this will be a spectacle that even as the only NHL game of the day will be one you will not want to miss.

While the Golden Knights appear to be the better team this season, it is the Kraken that look to have the edge in this game. Vegas has dropped 5 out of their last 7 games as part of a somewhat streaky 2023-24 season. Meanwhile, the Kraken enter this game as winners of 4 straight games and of 6 out of their last 8.
In addition to solid recent form, the Kraken obviously posses a home-ice advantage in this one. This is less than a 3-year old franchise that is off to a great start for franchise history, has built a loyal fanbase, and will play in front of their home crowd in a large stadium that will be rocking. The Kraken have a great chance to win this Winter Classic.

The recent volatility of the Golden Knights give the over appeal in this one. High totals have not been very common this season thus far for the Kraken. But they have been very prominent this season thus far for the Golden Knights. The over has hit in 9 out of Vegas’ last 11 games, as well as in 5 out of their last 6 games on the road.
There is an intangible in this game that will have both teams buzzing. The pure aspect of being the only NHL game on a holiday in a unique setting with all eyes on them is a combination that will have these teams feeding off of adrenaline. In a situation which adrenaline could lead to looser play and more chances taken, the over looks good.
Jordan Eberle over 0.5 points (+100)
This game feels especially important for a player like Jordan Eberle. He is an original Kraken and is one of the longest tenured NHL players on the roster. If there is anyone in this game that understands the gravity of a regular season game played on January 1st in front of the hockey world, it is Jordan Eberle.
Aside from the intangible of being fired up for an important game in franchise history, it certainy does not hurt that Jordan Eberle still has the ability to produce. Eberle is currently slated on Seattle’s top line and second power play. The adrenaline, talent, and ice time with skilled teammates give Eberle good value to produce on Monday.
